Dog torturer gets 15 years in prison

Think Animals Abusers Never Get What They Deserve?

It’s 15 Years of Prison for California Dog Torturer

You may remember the horrific crimes perpetrated against Bubba, an unfortunate pit bull, that came to light a few years ago. We’re posting about this now, to remind you all, that justice, while not always meted out as deserved, sometimes is served, and we’re working to make it be the case more often than not.

In Sacramento, California Superior Court Judge Steve White imposed the maximum sentence on Robert Lee Brian for the brutal torture of his dog, Bubba.  Brian was sentenced to spend the next 15 years and 6 months regretting the suffering he inflicted on Bubba.

Bubba, seized by Sacramento County Animal Services in October of 2013, was suffering from a fractured skull and snout and was blinded in one eye. Bubba had also endured sadistic chemicals burns to the top of his head and face.

Officials also discovered the remains of three other dogs on the property, who were not fortunate enough to escape Robert Lee Brian’s abuse alive. Two of the bodies had decomposed, but authorities were able to perform a necropsy on the third body. Evidence of trauma similar to what Bubba had experienced led to an additional charge against Brian.

Bubba survived the mayhem his ruthless “owner” subjected him to and was adopted by his foster guardian, content to live happily and be free of domination and torment. Brian, on the other hand, has experienced loss of freedom, and who knows what else.

In Defense of Animals’ newly formed Justice for Animals Campaign’s mission is working to end the abuse of animal companions, in one of the toughest regions in the country. We’re working to first enable Mississippians to turn the tide of torture and apathy and use their accomplishments to show that even a region with scarce resources for rescue, care, placement, and a legislature bent on stifling protective statutes can be molded by the will of the compassion of its people.
