VOGUE: Join ELLE Magazine & Declare Fur-Free Editorial Policy!

Global lifestyle publication Elle recently announced it will no longer include animal fur in its magazine or online. It is time for the world's most influential fashion publication to do the same. Please urge Vogue to ban cruel and outdated animal fur to prove that the future of fashion is fur-free!
The world has acknowledged the brutality of the fur trade and has taken action. In 2019, California became the first state in the nation to ban fur sales following a campaign spearheaded by In Defense of Animals and our partner organizations. Cities in Massachusetts and Florida have also banned fur, with many other states introducing fur-free bans. Mega-retailers including Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Nordstrom have eliminated fur from their stores. Canada Goose, Versace, Michael Kors, Gucci, Prada, Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Vivienne Westwood, and Armani are among the many fashion brands that have made fur-free commitments.
To steal their fur, foxes, mink, coyotes, sables and other fur-bearing animals are confined in filthy fur farms where they suffer from intense confinement, fear, and disease. They are deprived of space and everything wild animals need to thrive. They are bludgeoned, internally electrocuted, gassed, or shot before their fur is ripped from their bodies to make fur trim, coats, home decor, and accessories. Investigations have indicated that some animals may be skinned alive.
Fur is not only cruel, it is dangerous to all of us. Mink are highly susceptible to COVID-19. Mink fur farms around the globe were infected with the deadly disease, leading to millions of mink being gassed to death and buried in mass graves. The virus passed from mink to humans and back again, spawning mutated strains of the virus, which experts suggest may impact the efficacy of vaccines.
In November 2020, Vogue published an article entitled Mink Farming and COVID-19: Here's Why Fashion Needs to Finally Say Goodbye to Fur, detailing an astonishing number of fashion houses and retailers moving away from animal fur en masse, a heightened interest in faux fur options, and the drastic decline of fur sales over the past several years.
“As the pandemic continues to put a strain on an already ailing industry, perhaps it also provides a useful moment to pause and once more question the validity of fur's presence in the fashion industry at all. This could be the time to say goodbye to it — for good.”
It is time for Vogue to put its words into action. For over a century, Vogue magazine has been hailed as the best-known and most influential fashion publication in the world. Vogue's global monthly footprint includes 22.5 million readers of its printed magazines, 86.2 million unique digital users, and 167.5 million social media followers across its many sub-brands and publications. The publication's commitment to go fur-free would send a loud message to the fashion industry that fur belongs in the past.
